Review construction plans and specifications for compliance with the MA State Building Code and Needham By-laws, Perform field inspections to verify adherence to approved plans and applicable codes, Issue necessary notices and orders to correct unsafe conditions and ensure code compliance, Interpret and enforce the Massachusetts State Building Code and applicable sections of General Law and By-Laws, Assist in preparing the department’s operating and capital budgets, Supervise administrative support staff, Develop informational materials and update the department’s web page.

Certified Local Inspector from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Massachusetts State Certification as Building Commissioner within 12 months, Valid driver’s license, 5-7 years of supervisory experience in building construction or design, Knowledge equivalent to two years of college in building construction.
Knowledge of building regulations, fire prevention, energy efficiency, and safe egress requirements, Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills, Expertise in interpreting building codes and zoning laws, Budget management skills.
