As the Building Commissioner, you will oversee the administration, supervision, and inspection processes that ensure compliance with state building codes, local zoning ordinances, and city regulations. Job Responsibilities

Plan, direct, and coordinate the Inspections Department activities, including electrical, plumbing, gas inspections, and weights and measures, Manage the annual budget for Inspection Services, Maintain departmental records and correspondence, Develop and implement departmental policies, goals, and objectives, Lead, supervise, and evaluate departmental personnel, ensuring proper staffing and performance reviews, Review building plans for compliance with codes and regulations, and issue building permits, Issue inspection certificates, occupancy certificates, and notices of violations, Ensure all zoning requirements are met before issuing building permits, Respond to emergencies related to building safety, Investigate complaints regarding compliance with codes and by-laws, Communicate with property owners and the public regarding building regulations, Inspect commercial constructions and alterations, ensuring compliance, Attend City Council meetings and other relevant committees, Maintain records of code violations and ensure compliance with safety regulations, Perform related duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in building construction/design, 5-7 years of relevant experience in the construction trade or equivalent combination of education and experience, State certification as Building Commissioner/Inspector, Construction Supervisor License, Expert knowledge of Massachusetts State Building Code, Valid driver's license, Previous supervisory experience, Strong understanding of safety and construction standards, Excellent communication skills, Ability to interpret technical documents and regulations effectively.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of Massachusetts State Building Code, Skills in building inspection and compliance assessment, Proficiency in using inspection software, Strong communication and customer service skills, Ability to enforce regulations tactfully, Leadership and team management skills, Familiarity with construction practices and safety requirements, Understanding of zoning laws and local ordinances.
