About The Job

Join the Town of Milton as a Building Commissioner and lead a team dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in building safety and zoning compliance. This pivotal role involves administering and enforcing the State Building Code, the Town Zoning Ordinance, and Massachusetts General Laws related to zoning. As the Building Commissioner, you will manage a team of skilled inspectors and support staff within the Inspectional Services Department, ensuring effective and efficient operations. This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week) offering a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.

Job Responsibilities

Administer and enforce the State Building Code, oversee compliance with the Town Zoning Ordinance, manage inspections and permits, lead a team of inspectors and support staff, ensure adherence to Massachusetts General Laws and local bylaws, provide professional and technical guidance, collaborate with the Town Administrator on policy direction, develop and implement departmental procedures, maintain accurate records and reports, engage with the public and stakeholders on building regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field, Massachusetts Certification as an Inspector of Buildings/Building Commissioner, five years of experience in building construction or design, direct management experience, advanced technical training, any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of building codes and regulations, inspection techniques, zoning laws, leadership, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, familiarity with Massachusetts General Laws, building and construction management.
