About The Job

As the Building Commissioner, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity of construction and zoning within our community. By overseeing the Building Department's operations—including the permitting process, enforcing zoning bylaws, and consulting on Town construction projects—you will be at the forefront of maintaining safety and compliance. Your responsibilities also include responding to inquiries and complaints related to building codes, supervising departmental staff, and meticulously managing records. We are seeking a dynamic leader who is passionate about enhancing the safety and livability of our environment while fostering community relations.

Job Responsibilities

Oversee Building Department operations, Manage the permitting process, Ensure compliance with zoning bylaws, Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public, Serve as the Town's zoning enforcement officer, Consult on Town construction projects, Supervise department staff, Maintain accurate records and files, Develop and monitor the operating budget

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s Degree or 2 years of technical school training, 4-6 years of experience in construction, including supervisory experience, Knowledge of ADA requirements, State statutes, building codes, and local zoning laws, State certification as an Inspector of Buildings/Building Commissioner in accordance with 780 CMR 110.R7, Strong knowledge of construction methods and safety regulations, Experience in community engagement and customer service
