About The Job

Join our team as a Building Commissioner/Zoning Enforcement Officer! In this vital role, you will oversee the enforcement of the State Building Code, local zoning bylaws, and related regulations, ensuring public safety and adherence to codes. This position requires excellent communication and customer service skills, as you will interact with residents, businesses, and government officials. With a competitive salary of $80,000 to $95,000 based on qualifications and a robust benefits package, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our community.

Job Responsibilities

Manage operations of the Building Department, Perform inspections of public buildings, Examine building plans for compliance, Review and approve building permit applications, Use e-permitting software to streamline processes, Coordinate with departments and agencies to facilitate workflows, Conduct inspections of construction projects, Investigate zoning complaints and issue orders, Prepare appeals documentation for Zoning Board, Oversee administrative functions and budget preparation, Maintain expertise and certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, 10 years of progressive experience in building construction or design, State-issued Building Inspector/Commissioner certification, Construction Supervisor’s License, Class D Massachusetts driver's license, Bachelor's degree in construction or design-related field.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of building materials and construction methods, Familiarity with state building codes and zoning bylaws, Understanding of fire prevention and ventilation, Strong communication abilities, Excellent customer service skills, Attention to detail, Ability to read architectural drawings, Understanding of legal procedures in zoning and building matters.
