About The Job

Join the Town of Dracut as a Local Building Inspector, where you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with zoning bylaws and building codes. You will assist the Inspector of Buildings in upholding the Massachusetts State Building Code 780 CMR, Architectural Access Board Regulations 521 CMR, and other relevant local laws. Your expertise will help maintain safety and quality in our community's structures, making your contributions vital to public welfare.

Job Responsibilities

Review and approve plans and specifications, Issue or deny building permits, Conduct field inspections for compliance with regulations, Inspect schools and commercial buildings as mandated, Address counter inquiries and assist with applications, Investigate complaints and represent findings before Town Boards or in court, Maintain accurate public records and reports, Collaborate with Town Departments and State officials, Perform other duties as required.

35-hour work week, Health insurance, Dental insurance, Optional benefits, Mileage reimbursement at current IRS rate.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum five years of experience in building construction supervision or design, OR a two-year associate's degree in a related field, Certification as a Local Inspector preferred, Proficient in Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel, Valid Class D driver's license and suitable vehicle, Experience with Viewpoint software preferred.

Preferred Skills

Plan reading and interpretation, Building code knowledge, Regulatory compliance, Strong communication skills, Tactful public interaction, Problem-solving abilities, Familiarity with Massachusetts State Building Code, Zoning bylaw enforcement.
