About The Job

Join the Town of Middleton as a part-time Local Building Inspector, where you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with the State Building Code and local regulations. This hourly position offers flexibility, with up to 19 hours per week based on the discretion of the Building Commissioner. Job Responsibilities

Conduct inspections, Enforce and interpret the State Building Code, Ensure compliance with local zoning ordinances, Answer inquiries from the public, architects, contractors, and engineers regarding code enforcement, Prepare and maintain accurate records and technical reports, Assume responsibilities of the Building Commissioner in their absence.

Preferred Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent, Five years of experience in the construction industry or a two-year degree in a related field, Current certification from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Local Inspector or Inspector of Buildings (or ability to obtain within 12 months), Valid Class D driver’s license, Suitable vehicle for transportation, Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of building, accessibility, and zoning codes, Ability to prepare technical reports and maintain records, Proficiency in conducting inspections, Strong communication abilities, Capacity to develop effective working relationships, Ability to enforce codes impartially and fairly, Familiarity with construction practices and regulations, Understanding of safety implications in building inspections.
