About The Job

Join our dynamic team as a Local Inspector, where you will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with state building codes and local zoning regulations. Under the guidance of the Building Commissioner, you will review permit applications, issue permits, conduct inspections, and uphold the highest standards of safety and efficiency in our community. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage a diverse range of responsibilities while maintaining a commitment to excellent public service. Job Responsibilities

Enforce building codes, zoning laws, and regulations, Review and approve permit applications, Coordinate with departments for plan completeness, Conduct inspections for safety compliance, Recommend actions for licensing renewals, Assist the public with construction and zoning issues, Document inspections and issue Certificates of Occupancy, Communicate with contractors and residents, Schedule inspections for various trades, Undertake special projects as required, Maintain regular attendance at the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of experience in building construction supervision or related field, Ability to obtain Massachusetts Local Inspector certification within 18 months, Valid motor vehicle operator's license, Current Massachusetts Local Inspector certification (preferred), Associate's degree in building design or related field (preferred).

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of building construction standards, Understanding of fire prevention regulations, Familiarity with zoning laws and inspection procedures, Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, Strong problem-solving abilities, Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, In-depth knowledge of local and state building codes, Familiarity with construction safety protocols, Experience with public consultations regarding building regulations.
